#5 Apprentice/Master 14/15 with Paul Kooiker: 'Law and order'09 January – 25 January 2015
This was the fifth exhibition in the Apprentice/Master Program 2014/15 held in Kunstpodium T with master artist: Paul Kooiker and Apprentices: Anne Imfeld, Daisy Gaffney, Maurice Nuiten and Dóra Benyó. After the long and heavy World War One, Germany had to rearrange the Country. An industrial reorganisation had taken place where new paper sizes were also introduced. The first principle of this was the ratio between width and length. If you fold a sheet in half, and another, and another, the ratio remains the same. The second principle was an A0 sheet with a surface of 1 square meter. One crease/fold gives A1, two creases/ gives A2, and three creases give A3. With four creases we are at our A4 sheet: 210 x 297 mm. This size was our starting point for making an exhibition; it became our law and order. |

#19 Apprentice/Master 14/15 with Xu Mue: 'IN•NO•SENSE'21 May - 07 June 2015
This was the nineteenth exhibition in the Apprentice/Master Program 2014/15 held in Kunstpodium T with master artist: Xu Mue and Apprentices: Astrid Bossuyt, Doris Sparreboom and Sophie Charlotte Johns. “IN•NO•SENSE” is a made-up homonym of “innocence”. When ‘something does not make sense’ it means there is no logic, it s unclear or useless. Can it be that there is another explanation, like - it has not yet been defined? In IN•NO•SENSE, four artists share one prominent enthusiasm: things that do not serve the usual criteria of importance fascinate them; they find great pleasure diving into the world of insubstantiality. Curious and sensitive these artists found treasures of indefinite values. The exhibition shows the personal discoveries from each artist’s independent journeys, through wonderments in unimaginable worlds. On another hand, their gentle and carefree gestures are critical reflections on the contemporary living circumstances –the spiritual emptiness and the overloaded wastes from consumerism. |
Eighth edition of the Apprentice/Master Meetup 14/15May 22nd 2015
Hosted at De Brakke Grond (Amsterdam) Dialogue about the future of the artistic practice The Apprentice/Master project matches graduating (BA/MA) art students to renowned contemporary artists that connect with the work of the students. In the project groups of three or four students work together and exhibit along with their master artist. The past season resulted in twenty exhibitions all over Europe, 71 students and twenty masters participated. Within each of these collaborations there was a true treasury of knowledge found – now it’s time to bring all of this together. We turn the classical lecture rules around: this event doesn’t have talks by people in the field. Instead, they will be the ones asking you questions that invite you to share information and come up with solutions and alternatives. Through six professionals that pose a question, among them artists Kelly Schacht and Thom Puckey, we will analyze the artists’ identity and his/her position and role in the scene and society. |
Day of the Young Artist 2015 hosted at De Pont museum14th September 2015
Dialogue about the future of the artistic practice The Day of the Young Artist is an annual, international symposium in which young artists from all over Europe gather at De Pont Museum, Tilburg. The symposium offers an engaging program focussing on the dialogue between the new generation of artists, European art schools and the professional field. Together with the audience, we looked at the artists’ identity, his position and role in 'the scene' and 'society'. Who exactly is the young artist? What are his dreams and ambitions? How does the young, European artist keep himself standing at a time where grants continuously disappear? Next to tips and tricks from present-day experts we also looked at the past: how does the contemporary art world relate to the art scene in earlier times? What might we then say about the future? By means of stimulating lectures, inspiring discussions and exciting workshops we tried to get to the bottom of the future of the artistic practice. |

En: Seemingly aimless trips with an open mind. Coming home with pictures as treasures, mirrors of the world After thirty years of film and video picked up photography firmly. In the first instance, the quality was examined for display on screens, but with the ability to be able to print the images myself they are now also printed as a large series |
#1 'Surfacing' with Maura Biava A/M 15/1629 October 2015 - 15 Novemebr 2015
With master artist Maura Biava and Apprentices: Nina Musholt (EN)María José Prada Rodriguez (VIG)Heather Hodkinson (NOT) Lea Petrikova (PRG) Surfacing – Brings together 5 artists whose work embodies a subtle observation towards their environment. Allied through the Kunstpodium T Apprentice/Master project they will explore their similar ways of encountering the world through a variety of medium, with the intention to highlight sometimes disregarded parts of nature. Maura Biava I see the act of making in direct link to the work. It can be seen as a wish to involve a performative aspect. Of a performance there might be only the memory or the documentation. Often in combination with mathematics, used as a language employed to inform and create forms as well as analyze them. Heather Hodkinson (NOT) My practice is a reflection on how I encounter my surroundings. My own questions about nature and human behavior towards it manifest themselves through my work in forms of song, storytelling and installation. I try to make the viewer consider and appreciate the precious details nature has offered us and question what keeps us distracted from them. Nina Musholt (EN) if Im taking a picture the subjects are always from my closest surroundings. I want to show my enviroment as pure and honest as possible.I really like it to see things other people would have never seen or take care about them. Composition and the relation between objects matters a lot to me. Lea Petrikova (PRG) My moving images, characterized by meditative, contemplative mood, often depict poetic situations hiding existential questions that a man has to deal with; situations where concrete elements expose inner worlds of myself and of the viewers. Events in which time transforms in its dimensions, often including a human character doing simple gestures in a landscape. I call my method documenting fiction and fictionalizing reality. María José Prada Rodriguez (VIG) As a result of my former interests in architecture, my work deals with projective geometry, structure, surface and laminar shapes. I'm interested in analog ways of transforming or creating images, and the manner in which 3-dimensional reality interfaces with flat images. I use paper as a feed material, suitable for certain manipulations that I mostly appreciate, such as folding. |
